2 Thessalonians 2:14-15

2 Thessalonians 2:14-15
Into this He called you all through our Gospel, into an experience of glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Consequently, therefore, brothers and sisters, stand firm and seize the teaching that you all were being taught – whether through a word or through our letter.

Thoughts for Today

First Thought:

Once more Paul reminds us that it is God who calls us.  He calls us into the glory of Jesus Christ.  He calls us into something that we cannot know on our own.  He calls us into something we neither deserve nor can even truly appreciate.  Yet He stills calls us.  He calls us out of His grace and His love simply because it is His desire to love us.

Do you appreciate God’s love?  Can you ever fully appreciate the fullness of God’s love?  What does this truly tell us about God and His character?

Second Thought:

What is neat about this passage is that Paul tells us that this calling is through “our Gospel.”  We should not make too much of this.  Paul isn’t using this term to place ownership upon the Gospel.  It’s God’s story; it is the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the salvation that we receive through Him.  What Paul is reminding us in a very subtle and small way is that we as human beings are invited to play a part in God’s play.  We can proclaim God’s grace to the world.  Can saves people, but He can use us in that process!

Do you feel worthy enough to be a part of God’s plan?  Is your worthiness really even important?

Third Thought:

Paul gives the Thessalonians advice that we’ve heard before.  Seize the teaching.  Hold fast to what we know of God.  Stand firm in the faith.  God is so gracious and so inviting that He deserves our loyalty.  After all, what in this world can be worth more to us than the love of God and His call into His glory?

When are you apt to stand firm?  When are you apt to wander?  How are you reminder to stand firm when you might be tempted to wander?
