Colossians 3:14-15

Colossians 3:14-15
And upon all things is love for this: to be bound together in perfect maturity.   And let the peace of Christ be in control in your heart, in which you all were being summoned in one body.  And become thankful.

Thoughts for Today

First Thought:

Paul ties love together with maturity in this passage.  I think that this profound.  You see, anyone can want their own way.  Anyone can get angry when things don’t go their way.  Anyone can get upset when there are differences.  Only the mature person will see the benefit of harmony among the followers of God.  Only the really mature person will love harmony among believers.

Do you love being bound together in perfect maturity?  What does it mean to you to be bound together in perfect maturity?  Where do you see this and feel this in your life?

Second Thought:

Paul talks to the Colossians about peace.  There are two kinds of peace in the Bible.  There is peace between us and God and there is peace with one another.  I believe Paul is talking about both of these in this passage.  The peace of Christ is first and foremost peace with God.  We stand condemned, but we can know forgiveness and justification through Christ.  In this we are called to be the body of Christ – one body.  Because of the peace that we can have with God, we can be at peace with one another.

Do you have this peace in your life?  Where is this peace present?  Where does this peace need to grow within you?

Third Thought:

And become thankful.  The way that Paul says this indicates a lot about the Colossians – and I think a lot about humanity in general.  We are not inherently thankful.  Thankfulness – gratitude – is not something that is naturally a part of who we are.  We work towards thankfulness.  We work towards gratitude.  That posture is developed within.

Where are you working on a position of gratitude?  How are you becoming more thankful in your life?  To whom are you thankful?
